About Biodiesel

Western Biodiesel Inc. will produce and market a fuel that has many environmental, safety, health and engine performance benefits.  We believe the market for biodiesel will continue to grow for the following reasons:

 1.  Biodiesel is a renewable, non-toxic; diesel fuel substitute derived from domestic products such as soybean oil, canola oil, and animal fats and used cooking oil (yellow grease). It runs in any unmodified diesel engine whether blended with petroleum diesel or not (B100 = 100 percent biodiesel):  It is commonly blended at ratios of 5 percent (B5) to 20 percent (B20) with petroleum diesel to speed market acceptance.

 2. Biodiesel has proven health benefits over petroleum diesel primarily due to lower particulate emissions; B100 can reduce cancer risks of diesel vehicle emissions by as much as 94 percent while B20 reduces risks by 27 percent.

 3. Tallow based B20 reduces net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 18 percent as compared to petroleum diesel. The Canadian Climate Change Central organization reports that B100 decreases accumulations of greenhouse gases by upwards of 93 percent compared to petro-diesel, making it the single most effective GHG reduction technology for existing diesel engines.

 4.   Biodiesel is completely biodegradable and non-toxic to humans, animals and plants.

 5. Biodiesel provides a substantial improvement in fuel lubricity, decreasing wear on fuel injection components and increasing engine life.  It has been sold as a petro-diesel fuel performance additive for many years. Ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel has significantly reduced lubricity and the market for biodiesel lubricity additives is expected to increase as ultra-low sulfur diesel mandates are met by refiners.

 6. Biodiesel has a higher cetane number and 12 percent higher oxygen content improving the combustion characteristics of petro-diesel when blended. This leads to a better fuel economy and engine performance.

 7.   Biodiesel can be used without any modifications to the engine or fueling infrastructure, making it simple for fleet managers to phase in or phase out its use.

 8.   Biodiesel is safe to use because of its high flash point, < 125 Deg.C and it is not considered a flammable product.

 9.  The lifecycle energy balance for biodiesel derived from seed oil is very positive at about 3.2:1 and more than 4:1 for animal fat based biodiesel (biodiesel yields 3.2 units of energy for every 1 unit of fossil fuel energy in its lifecycle)

Warranty info

Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) provide a material and workmanship warranty on their products. OEMs will not and cannot void warranties based solely on the use of biodiesel. If an engine that uses biodiesel experiences a failure unrelated to biodiesel use, it should be covered by the warranty. Warranties are only void if the biodiesel is the cause of the malfunction. This is the same practice as with traditional diesel fuel. In such a case, the fuel most likely does not meet the specifications and the fuel supplier will be accountable
